Perceptions on the impact of data breaches and identity protection

44% of US citizens believe that their personally identifiable information (PII) has been compromised in a data breach, a recent survey by 4iQ found. 63% of respondents worry that previous breaches may result in identity fraud at a later date, while 37% think they have already been targeted by fraudsters.

The survey also shows that people’s trust in the government is low when it comes to the effectiveness of its data protection practices, with only 42% judging the government as effective in this regard, while 75% said the same about their employer.
