Between January and July of this year, the number of detected phishing URLs surged by 400%, a recent Webroot study found. Phishing attacks continue to get more sophisticated, with 29% of phishing sites now using HTTPS in order to appear more legitimate, while 24% of malicious URLS are hosted on trusted domains.
The report also shows that one in three (33%) employees click on over 25 work-related links every day, thereby putting their organizations at risk of malware infections, cyber theft and other threats, since 1 in every 50 URLs is nefarious. Windows 7 users are especially at risk because the number of exploits targeting this outdated operating system has increased by 75% since the start of this year.
