All US victims of ransomware attacks, both companies and individuals, are strongly advised not to pay the ransom, and to contact the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) instead, the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) states in a new public service announcement.
The IC3 explains that while large scale ransomware attacks have decreased since the beginning of 2018, ransomware losses have risen due to an increase in disruptive, targeted attacks. “Although state and local governments have been particularly visible targets for ransomware attacks, ransomware actors have also targeted health care organizations, industrial companies, and the transportation sector, ” the IC3 warns.
