Wikipedia was hit by a disruptive distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) on Friday that took the digital encyclopedia offline in various countries including France, Germany, Italy, Poland and most of the United Kingdom.
A statement published by Wikimedia Foundation condemned the attack, which it blamed on “bad faith actors.” The organization said that attacks of this kind are “not just about taking Wikipedia offline,” but “threaten everyone’s fundamental rights to freely access and share information.”
