Days after an explosion took place at Iran’s Imam Khomeini Space Center, the United States government has imposed sanctions on the country’s civilian space agency as well as two related research facilities. According to the Trump administration, the recent explosion was an indication that the site is being used for the development and/or testing of ballistic missiles.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stated that his government won’t allow Tehran to use the sanctioned organizations as a “cover to advance [Iran’s] ballistic missile programs.” An Iranian government spokesman recently acknowledged the explosion and criticized US President Trump for tweeting about it.
