The FBI has released the master decryption tools for the Gandcrab Ransomware versions 4, 5, 5.0.4, 5.1, and 5.2 “in order to facilitate the development of additional decryption tools,” the agency stated. Last month, a collaborative effort by Bitdefender, the FBI and law enforcement agencies from various European countries lead to the release of a Gandcrab decryptor by Bitdefender.
GandCrab was first released in January of last year and quickly became a major threat. However, inJune the threat actors behind GandCrab announced on an underground forum that they were retiring. The cybercriminals claimed that their ransomware strain generated over $2 billion in ransom payments since the campaign was launched.
