Researchers with Kaspersky have uncovered new versions of the notorious FinSpy malware in the wild. The malware, which has been found on both iOS and Android devices, is designed to steal information such as contact lists, text messages, emails, GPS location data and much more.
In fact, FinSpy can “monitor almost all device activities, including recording VoIP calls via external apps such as Skype or WhatsApp.” Switching to a secure messaging app like Telegram doesn’t protect users either, since the malware can extract information from such apps as well. Kaspersky, which has detected the cyber espionage malware on devices in at least 20 different countries, warns that the threat actors behind FinSpy seem to be expanding their campaign.
