In the midst of mounting US-Iran tensions, both countries have been stepping up offensive cyber campaigns directed at each other. For instance, US Cyber Command recently took down Iranian systems used by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) for controlling rocket and missile launchers.
Against this background, IRGC Commander Hossein Salami this weekend unveiled a tactical battlefield communications unit that should be resilient against US cyberattacks. State media reported that this includes “hacks, eavesdropping, radio jamming, and electromagnetic disturbance.” The commander stated that the system puts Iran “at the forefront in the field of ICT and command and control,” adding that “we are not exaggerating our leadership in this area.”
