Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Wednesday warned that unless European signatories to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal take urgent steps to significantly reduce the impact of United States sanction on Iran by Sunday 7 July, the country will begin to enrich uranium at higher levels than allowed under the agreement, which was abandoned by the US last year.
On Monday, Iran already violated the deal by exceeding the amount of low-enriched uranium it is allowed to store. Europe has been working on a payment system that will allow for indirect trade between Iranian firms and companies from other countries in a way that circumvents US sanctions on Iran. However, the Iranian regime is not satisfied with these efforts.
