Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Monday denied allegations by the United States that his country has been in violation of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal from the very start. The US government on Monday stated “there is little doubt that even before the deal’s existence, Iran was violating its terms.” In response to this, Zarif Tweeted: “Seriously?”
Earlier on Monday, Zarif had announced that Iran exceeded the cap of 300kg for the amount of low-enriched uranium it is allowed to store under the agreement. The announcement did not come as a surprise, since Iran had previously warned that it was close to exceeding the cap. Zarif later stated that his government has been “transparent in saying what we are going to do,” adding that because European efforts to help Iran evade US sanctions have not been sufficient, “we will move ahead with our plan.”
