The threat actors behind the notorious GandCrab Ransomware this weekend announced on an underground forum that they will end their reign of terror within a month. The cybercriminals claimed that their highly popular ransomware strain has generated over $2 billion in ransom payments since the campaign was launched in January of last year, enabling the threat actors to earn $150 million, which they have “successfully cashed and legalized […] in various spheres of white businesses.”
The crooks went on to brag that they “have proved that by doing evil deeds, retribution does not come” and that “in a year you can earn money for a lifetime.” They also warned that victims of the malware will no longer be able to regain access to encrypted systems by paying the ransom.
