Checkers Drive-In Restaurants, Inc., a company that operates hundreds of Checkers and Rally’s drive-thru restaurants across the United States, has suffered a serious security breach in which threat actors managed to steal payment card data from customers at 103 restaurants in 20 states.
The attackers obtained the data by infecting point-of-sale (POS) systems with information-stealing malware. The company says that the malware has been removed and that it has launched an investigation into the incident. By reading the magnetic stripe of payment cards, the malware was able to gather cardholder names, card numbers, verification codes and expiration dates.
