Google accidentally stored passwords of some G Suite customers in unhashed format for 14 years, the company acknowledged on Tuesday, adding that the issue “primarily impacted system generated or admin generated passwords intended for one-time use.” Google did not specify how many customers were affected.
Gmail accounts are not affected by the issue. The company will enforce a password change for G Suite users who don’t update their passwords for themselves. Google also mentioned that it accidentally stored a subset of unhashed passwords in its secure encrypted infrastructure since January of this year. That issue has been resolved.
