A new report by Thales looks at the data threats affecting federal agencies in the US. It shows that 60% of agencies have suffered a data breach in the past and over one-third (35%) experienced one in the past year. The research also found that almost all (98%) of agencies are using sensitive information on digital transformation technologies, but just 30% encrypt data within these environments, which creates significant risk.
According to Frank Dickso of IDC, the research shows that “[m]odernization and transformation efforts can create new vulnerabilities that result in data breaches, with security measures often being applied after the fact.” This requires agencies to adopt “platforms that help them to better manage these environments and enable protection down to the data layer.”
