New research by Agari indicates that the vast majority of Republican and Democrat candidates for the 2020 US presidential election are putting themselves at risk of email attacks by not taking the necessary steps to properly secure their email account. Of all the campaigns included in the research, only 1% fully implemented email authentication protocol DMARC, and of the top 12 candidates, only Elizabeth Warren had done so. Failure to implement and properly configure DMARC can allow threat actors to spoof an email address.
In addition, a mere 3% of candidates use advanced email security to protect their accounts. Of the top 12 candidates, third-party email security solutions were used only by Warren and Bill Weld.
