Business email compromise (BEC) attacks targeting financial services organizations increased by a whopping 60% between 2017 and 2018, a new Proofpoint report shows.
The research also found that BEC scammers almost always spoof the identity of multiple employees in order to target other employees within the same organization. In 56% of BEC attacks, over 5 staff members are impersonated and in 37% of attacks the threat actors spoofed between two and five identities.
