Cybersecurity experts are worried that the recent departures of US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen and Secret Service Director Randolph Alles will undermine the continuity of the US cybersecurity policy. Both the DHS and the Secret Service play vital cybersecurity roles, since their responsibilities include the protection of infrastructure and the investigation of financial and other cyber crime.
While Nielsen made cybersecurity one of her top priorities, analysts fear that her successor may not. US president Donald Trump has indicated that Kevin McAleenan, the commissioner of Customs and Border Protection, will become acting secretary for DHS.
