A new report by BakerHostetler provides information on various threats and security trends based on 750 potential security incidents that occurred in 2018. The study points to phishing as the most common cause for security incident, which is unsurprising.
A more striking finding is that about one in four security incidents resulted from errors including loss of devices, inadvertent disclosures or system misconfigurations. The report also found that erroneous or negligent behavior by employees was the cause of 55% of incidents.
When it comes to incident response, the survey shows that organizations increasingly choose to launch a forensic investigation after an incident. This occurred after 65% of all incidents and after 79% of network intrusions.
