With the Ukrainian Presidential elections only days away, candidates are nervous about Russian interference efforts, while security officials are doing everything they can to undermine hacking and disinformation campaigns carried out by Moscow-backed hackers and trolls.
Early in the campaign, Ukrainian authorities took down a Russian operation aimed at obtaining access to Facebook profiles of Ukrainian voters by offering them money. The campaign was designed to get around new safeguards put in place by Facebook to identify malicious campaigns on its platform. While the tech company claims to be on top of things, Ukrainian officials complain that Facebook has been slow in responding to the Russian campaigns, which everyone new would be coming.
