The Department of Defense’s budget request for 2020 totals $750 billion, with $2.8 billion intended for the improvement of cyber capabilites. That figure can be broken down into two sums, $2 billion for research and development (R&D) and $843 million for procurement funding.
The department has highlighted seven priorities for its cyber budget, namely:
- End point management;
- Identity, credential, and access management (ICAM);
- Insider threat security;
- Secure application development;
- Cross-domain security to include mission partner networks;
- Supply chain risk management; and
- Encryption.
