The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have so far killed 38 ISIS fighters as part of their long-awaited push to capture Baghouz, the final Islamic State enclave on Syrian territory. The assault had been planned for a while, but was repeatedly postponed to allow for the evacuation of civilians from the area.
The SDF stated on Monday that the offensive “will continue until we totally wipe them [ISIS] out,” adding that “tangible progress” had been made. Analysts are warning that a defeat of ISIS in Baghouz will not mean that the terror group ceases to be dangerous. In fact, ISIS is already a growing threat in various other countries, including Iraq and the Philippines.
