A new Microsoft report shared by The Wall Street Journal indicates that over the past two years, Iranian hacking groups have launched attacks against thousands of employees at about 200 organizations the globe. Hackers belonging to Holmium and APT33, two groups that have been linked two Iran, stole confidential information and erased data from targeted systems, causing hundreds of millions of dollars in damages.
The “massively destabilizing events”, as Microsoft described the attacks, mostly occurred at energy companies, heavy-machinery manufacturers and conglomerates in the US, the UK, Germany, India and Saudi Arabia.
