The US government has once again warned some of its allies in Europe not to use Huawei technology. During a visit to Hungary, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that his governments wants to point out the risks of using Huawei equipment, and stated that if governments collocate Huawei equipment near key American systems, “it makes it more difficult for us to partner alongside them.” The Secretary of State also spoke with Hungary’s Foreign Minister on “the dangers of allowing China to gain a bridgehead”.
Pompeo’s visit to Hungary is part of a bigger trip covering Slovakia and Poland as well. The Polish government recently charged a local Huawei employee with espionage, and has already indicated that it might ban 5G equipment from the Chinese company.
