In response to satellite photos that allegedly show an attempted satellite launch by Iran, the US State Department on Thursday stated that such a launch involves “technologies that are virtually identical and interchangeable with those used in ballistic missiles, including in Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs),” and emphasized that the US “will continue to be relentless in building support around the world to confront the Iranian regime’s reckless ballistic missile activity.”
The incident marks the second Iranian attempt to launch a missile in under a month. While the attempt in January failed, it is not yet clear whether the launch on Thursday succeeded. The State Department referred to the incident as an “attempted space launch.”
