Yesterday was Safer Internet Day, the purpose of which is to draw attention to issues relating to Internet security and privacy, and to educate people about these topics. For this purpose, Google partnered up with Harris Poll to conduct a study(PDF) on online security.
The research found that 69% of survey respondents considered themselves to be top performers in terms of online account security, and 59% believed their accounts were better protected than the average account. However, the vast majority of respondents, including many self-declared “top performers”, actually engaged in very risky behavior such as reusing passwords across different accounts. In addition to the research results, Google also published 5 security recommendations for their users.
