Following a campaign targeting hundreds of thousands of printers, a hacking duo has claimed responsibility for hacking over 4,000 Chromecast and Google Home devices in order to display a message on the compromised TVs. Like the printer campaign, the messages urge viewers to subscribe to PewDiePie’s YouTube channel, the website’s most-subscribed channel. The hackers argue that their hacks are for the purpose of highlighting device insecurity and raising awareness. The hacks reportedly accessed the devices through a router setting that can expose internet ports if configured without proper security.
