Melbourne ‘terror plot’: Three held over ‘chilling’ gun plan, police say
Australian police have arrested three suspects allegedly plotting to commit a terror attack with a semi-automatic rifle in Melbourne. The suspects were reportedly “inspired” by ISIS, although any connection or funding to the organization has not been reported. The trio had not picked a location, but were planning to attack a crowded area where they could kill as many people as possible. The suspects had been known to police and had seen their passports cancelled in 2017 to prevent their overseas travel to join a terrorist organization. Melbourne has been struggling with terrorism, and a knife attack killed one and injured two others earlier this month. Since 2014, Australia have charged 90 on terrorism-related charges.
