With all the talk about Artificial Intelligence, little has been said about developments or quality protocols in data management. And with a technology that is only as good as the data that enables it, this is a problem. “If we don’t make the right investments on the data side, it’s like we have the fastest plan in the world and no fuel…getting data organized and accessible for AI is no simple task. We’re building a foundation for the data in alignment with how we’re enabling [AI] capabilities. They’re two different journeys, but they have to go together.” declared federal CIO Suzette Kent. Technology has enabled collection of tremendous amounts data, but much of this data exists unordered and completely useless for AI development or integration. The White House has made data management improvement a key pillar of the President’s Management Agenda, where the federal data strategy will include information ecosystem improvements as priorities.
