“NATO’s growing deterrence posture is pushing the allies’ interoperability problems to the fore in ways not seen since the Cold War years, but with a twist. It is less a matter of corps-to-corps identification of issues between the allies and more about what works or does not work in very concrete terms at brigade and battalion levels between different militaries. That is where the need for interoperability is proving most acute, according to allied military leaders, who are preparing their forces to participate in NATO’s large-scale live homeland defence exercise ‘Trident Juncture 18’ (‘TRJE18’) in Norway on 25 October–23 November.”
