In numbers that appear backwards, a UK-based war monitor has claimed that Russian airstrikes have killed over 18,000 people over the past three years, including around 8,000 civilians, 5,000 ISIS fighters, and 5,000 other rebel fighters. Russia, on the other hand, claims that it has killed far more “terrorists,” placing the number at 85,000. The White Helmets have accused Russia of attacking civilian spaces indiscriminately, “causing countless deaths and injuries, and massive infrastructural damage by bombing markets, bakeries, residential areas, IDP camps, schools and hospitals.” Coalition airstrikes have been estimated to have killed around 3,300 civilians in Syria and Iraq since its initial intervention against ISIS, of which just over 1,000 have been confirmed by the coalition.
