Toyota is investing around $500 million in Uber’s driverless car research and development as part of a deal that will have the two companies working to improve sector safety and lower transportation costs. Uber’s driverless-car division has been plagued by continuing losses and difficulties in generating popular uptake of the technology. Partnership with Toyota may represent a way forward for the technology and its spread in implementation across the U.S.
