Three days into operation, the facial recognition program at Dulles Airport outside of Washington DC has led to the first arrest of an individual attempting to enter the country on another individual’s passport. According to a CBP field office director, “the new facial recognition technology virtually eliminates the ability for someone to use a genuine document that was issued to someone else.” Facial recognition programs are in progress or in their early stages of implementation at 14 U.S. airports. One such program at JFK is also seeking to integrate facial recognition into its TSA checkpoints.
