After eight years, hundreds of billions in loans, and ongoing austerity measures, Greece has officially ended its bailout program and “managed to stand on her feet again,” in the words of Prime Minister Tsipras. The country faces ongoing economic difficulties, but the economy is slowing expanding and the record unemployment has reversed. Ongoing challenges include a debt load of 180% of GDP, the highest in the EU, ongoing “brain drain,” and a repayment schedule extending to 2060.
