Airlines have witnessed a drop in demand for flights to Mexican beach resort destinations over recent months due to ongoing security concerns from vacationers. Delta Air Lines president said that weakness in Mexican markets have been offset by Central America and the Caribbean, which has recovered from last year’s hurricanes more quickly than expected. Airlines have indicated that their hopes for improved demand will be fulfilled now that the Mexican election has ended and the peso has stabilized. The State Department continues to urge travelers to “exercise increased caution” due to crime, while recommending visitors avoid five of the highest-risk states entirely.
