A report released by the parliamentary defense committee argued that, without funding increases of over $10 billion USD per year, the UK will lose its “interoperability with the U.S. military” and capacity “to relieve U.S. burdens.” The UK is one of the only “tier one” militaries in the world, along with the U.S. China, Russia, and France, and risks of losing the position would have severe repercussions for the UK’s political and military relationship with the US, as well as its position within NATO. Given last week’s announcement of a $26 billion USD health spending plan, it is unlikely that requests for additional funding will move forward.
